January 2009 General Meeting Minutes
Meeting Minutes
5:30 – 6:00pm Members networked.
6:00pm Vann Cook welcomed everyone and said he would be conducting the meeting tonight in Barry’s absence. Vann introduced Natalie from Kathy G’s as the new treasurer and Rachael from Two Hearts Weddings and Events as the new secretary.
Vann then went onto talk about the main goal for AWEP is to network with fellow members and their guests by stepping out of their usual “friends” at the meetings. He also spoke about members talking with other wedding and event professionals they felt would be good additions to our membership and encouraging them to apply for membership.
Vann then introduced January’s meeting sponsor, Janetta from Catering by Lanetta. Janetta thanked everyone for coming and hoped everyone enjoyed the warm soups they had prepared. She then went onto say she wanted to let everyone know that her husband, Levi Jarman, had opened a new restaurant and catering service in Calera. It is Alabama Seafood and Catering.
Vann talked about the newly purchased name tag badges that everyone should have received when they signed in. He explained for this meeting they were able to slip a business card in them but starting next month they would have a preprinted AWEP name tag. He then asked everyone to hand in their badge before leaving the meeting tonight.
Vann then asked members that had brought guests with them to stand up and introduce them to the group. We had several new faces.
There were two new potential members to be voted on. They were SunDophin Productions and Gretchen B Photography. Ballots were handed out to members as they signed in at the beginning of the meeting. Vann asked those who had not received a ballot earlier to hold up their hand. He then reminded everyone that only one ballot needed to be completed per member company and asked everyone to make sure they handed in their ballot before they left.
Vann reminded everyone that their 2009 membership applications/renewals and their dues were due last week and to please get those turned in. He also reminded everyone to make sure they have updated their listing information for the website. The members were reminded they should have received their personal logon information to update their listing and if they didn’t have that to contact Sean the webmaster.
Vann told everyone about the two $500 donations AWEP gave to Birmingham Hospitality Network and Jessie’s Place. He explained the money that would have normally gone to a December meeting was designated for charitable purposes instead.
Vann announced the February meeting will be at The Tutwiler. Trisha Conrad from The Tutwiler then told the members the meeting would be held in the back dining room at ICON. She told everyone they were really looking forward to a fun experience for everyone to share with them next month. Vann then told everyone the Hilton on 280 would be hosting our March meeting and that as of right now, we were still in need of a host for the April meeting.
Vann then introduced Danny with Feel The Beat. Danny and his staff presented a very fun and entertaining presentation. It was entitled Game Show Mania and was patterned after the television game show “Jeopardy” complete with our contestants names lit up on the panels in front of them and buzzers for them to ring in with their answers. Most of the questions had to do with AWEP members. The contestants were Vince from Flower Stems, Brett from Arden Photography and Katie from Perfect Wedding Guide. Vince was our winner!
Vann thanked everyone for coming and asked they stay and network more. The meeting was adjourned.
